So. Amboy plans holiday events
SOUTH AMBOY — There will be plenty of holiday spirit in the city this season, with a tree-lighting ceremony, a housedecorating contest and free trolley rides for those who want to view residents’ displays.
The first set of events will happen on Dec. 6. That’s when the city will hold a tree lighting and fire/first aid truck parade. The lighting is planned for 6 p.m. at the South Amboy Train Station plaza; Santa’s appearance will follow at 6:30 p.m.
The city’s house-decorating contest offers a $100 prize to the winner. The deadline to decorate is Dec. 10.
The contest will provide a road map to a special holiday trolley running through the city starting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15.
Mayor Fred Henry announced the plans during his comments at the Nov. 15 City Council meeting. Henry said he’s hoping that participants will rediscover the city, and residents will travel to areas they may not have frequented for a while.
“A lot of times you don’t go to other parts of town,” he said.
There is no charge for attendees to take a ride on the trolley, the rental of which will cost the city $1,006, according to city Business Administrator Camille Tooker.
For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the recreation office at 732-316-8212. Those interested in riding the trolley should call the office to reserve a seat, as the event is first come, first served.
